Put simply, replay devices are interfaces between a PC and a console, similar to how you might use a GPU to interface with a monitor or a [[wikipedia:Network_interface_controller|NIC]] to interface with a LAN, and it's by playing back a movie over one of these console interfaces that the movie can be [[Console Verification|console-verified]]. (Specifically, if it finishes ''without desyncing'' then it's considered verified.) The replay device simulates a gamepad (or several) for the console to "see", and typically appears as a serial device on the PC. Newer designs have included an SD card to allow running without a PC.

TASVideos.org administrator [[adelikat]] joined the commentators via teleconference;
midway through the TAS block, the TASVideos server was receiving so much traffic from GDQ viewers that it got overloaded and went offline.

TASBot had more than one body even very early on; his first R.O.B. form was lent by a local collector near dwangoAC and returned to him in time, while early on a R.O.B. plus an NES/SNES replay device from true was a prize at an early GDQ. However, only one TASBot body is shown to an audience at a time, preserving the suspension of disbelief around his character in a similar manner to how Buster was treated on the show Mythbusters. There are now multiple TASBot bodies, recently referred to as [[TASBods]], allowing TASBot to appear at multiple locations in a way similar to how there is a Mickey Mouse in Disneyland and Disney World that never meet in person.

Tool-Assisted Speedruns (occasionally Tool-Assisted Superplays) or TASes are a subset of speedruns that are created in an emulator with the aid of tools. The goal of a TAS it to play through the game as fast and precisely as possible. The use of tools allows for many strategies and routes not normally possible by a human runner.

TASes are not created to compete with standard speedruns and often times speedruns and TASes share information to help each other improve.
